Salary: Vehicle Operator/Fuel Truck - 53

FLSA Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt



Qualifications:

  • Graduation from high school
  • Must possess a current North Carolina commercial driver’s license with proper endorsements for the weight and type of vehicles operated as required by DMV and pass a DOT drug and alcohol test



Essential Job Functions: 

  • Fuels all buses and checks oil and fluid levels
  • Loads fuel tanker at bulk fuel facility
  • Refills truck at the end of each day
  • Records all mileage accurately to ensure proper computations since all preventive maintenance is derived from the miles Fuel Truck Driver records on the TD-18B; paperwork must be turned in at the end of each day
  • Maintains accurate accounting of truck inventory
  • Maintains accurate records of dispensed fuel and provides fuel accounting documentation directly to Inventory Procurement Specialist for entry into the SVFMS
  • Remains familiar with the Moore County Schools Transportation Standard Operational Manual for Fuel Truck Operator
  • Responds to off site fuel outages and provides needed vehicle services
  • Assists mechanics with their 30 day monthly inspections
  • Assists mechanics in maintenance of vehicles on their assigned routes and in the shop
  • Operates wrecker and tows school system vehicles.
  • Is aware of and understands pertinent OSHA requirements
  • Performs daily pre-trip and post-trip inspection of vehicle to ensure safe operation
  • Prepares tires for installation; mounts and dismounts tires on rims and vehicles
  • Keeps inventory of adequate supply of tires and related parts
  • Inspect Charter Buses
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor





Physical and Cognitive Requirements: 

The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to this job classification within Moore County Schools.

 

Work in this classification is considered heavy physical work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

Must be able to:

  • walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch
  • work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards and atmospheric conditions
  • use visual acuity required for depth perception and color perception
  • visually inspect small defects and/or small parts
  • use a variety of measuring devices
  • operate machines, motor vehicles, hand tools, and job specific equipment and tools
  • observe general surroundings and activities
  • hear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels
  • use communication by means of spoken word to express or exchange ideas
  • safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment
